AU Bank is committed to help you enjoy safe and secure online banking. As we upgrade our banking technologies to serve you better, we recommend you too stay updated with ways to stay vigilant! With this in mind, we present some best practices to help you exercise caution when it comes to safeguarding your personal banking information.
Create strong passwords & change them regularly
The thumb rule of safe banking is to create strong passwords. Ideally it should include numerical, special characters, lowercase and uppercase letters. Do not use obvious passwords such as birthdays, anniversaries or your pet's name. Also, change your password every 3 months or every time you remember you have to.
Use secure devices
Avoid using your internet banking account on public computers such as at cyber cafes as there are higher chances of your password being traced or seen. If it's an emergency, use banking apps on your smartphone to make transactions. Also, never store your banking passwords on any device.
Always log out of the browser
It can be time-consuming to log in every time, but it's better than falling prey to fraudsters. Being logged in makes you vulnerable to session hijacking and cross-site scripting exploits. So, remember to clear the cache, browsing history and never allow the browser to remember your password.
Do not share your banking details
No bank or government officials will ask for your confidential information via phone or email. If you get a distress call or an email about your account, do not give your login information, card details, CVV, PIN, OTP or your passwords. Always remain vigilant about services that ask you to undertake payment transactions using remote access software such as Teamviewer, Anydesk, etc.
Monitor your account statements
Keep an eye on your accounts and your bank statements every few days. Do this especially after you have made an online transaction. If you notice any suspicious charges or discrepancies, notify the bank immediately. To do this, contact your bank’s toll-free number / customer service email ID only by referring to its official website.
Use updated antivirus software
The simplest way to safeguard your personal banking information is by regularly running an antivirus test and updating the software when needed. This will screen everything from your emails to your browsers.
