About UPI (Unified Payments Interface)
The world today is moving at a fast pace. As a consumer, you want speed, efficiency, and hassle-free options in whatever you do, including banking. In current times, the need for digitalization and having a cashless economy is essential and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) makes this possible.
With UPI, you can carry your bank in your smartphone and transact wherever and whenever you need. The service can be availed through Google Pay, PhonePe, etc., and it lets you make instant real-time payments to transfer, buy and sell goods and services, add beneficiaries and much more. This means you do not have to carry a wallet, chequebook or ATM card anymore!
Who Can Use It?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be an NRI, PIO, or OCI
- Hold an NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) account with a participating Indian bank
- Have your international mobile number registered with your Indian bank account
What You Can Do with UPI
- Send money to family and friends in India
- Pay utility bills, school fees, and more
- Shop online or in-store using QR codes
- Make merchant payments directly from your UPI app
How to Get Started
- Register your international mobile number with your NRE/NRO account
- Download a UPI-enabled app (e.g., Google Pay, PhonePe)
- Link your bank account and verify via SMS
- Set your UPI PIN and start transacting
Debit limit
Android user
- For the first 24 hours after registering on UPI, android users are limited to INR 5,000 or 20 transactions, whichever is reached first.
- After completing the initial 24 hours of UPI registration, users can transfer up to INR 1,00,000 per day with a maximum of 20 person-to-person (P2P) transactions within a 24-hour period.
- Users can transfer up to INR 1,00,000 in a single transaction.
- After completing the initial 72 hours of UPI registration, users can transfer up to INR 1,00,000 per day with a maximum of 20 person-to-person (P2P) transactions within a 24-hour period.
- Users can transfer up to INR 1,00,000 in a single transaction.
iOS user
- For the first 72 hours after registering on UPI, iOS users are limited to INR 5,000 or 20 transactions per 24 hours, whichever is reached first.
Credit limit
- Users can receive up to INR 1,00,000 in a single transaction.
- Users can receive up to INR 4,00,000 within 24 hours.
- Users can receive up to 50 transactions (any transaction value) or a maximum of 25 transactions over INR 2,000 within 24 hours.
